Bringing Nuria and Kayd to Life

I recently had the great honour of illustrating Nuria and Kayd, the main characters from The Rite of Recognition, the first book in Terri L. Johnson’s new romantic fantasy series!

Some of you already know that I’m an avid reader, and romantasy holds a very special place on my bookshelf. I love the mix of sweeping magical worlds and slow-burn tension. So when Terri reached out and shared her idea with me, I was absolutely thrilled!

Working on this project felt like the perfect blend of my two loves: books and illustration. Getting to know Nuria and Kayd through Terri’s descriptions, imagining their expressions, their style, and the energy between them, was such a joy. My goal was to capture not just how they look, but who they are, so that readers could feel a spark of recognition the moment they see them.

A huge thank you to Terri for trusting me with her characters. It’s always a privilege when an author lets you peek into their world before anyone else, and I can’t wait for you all to meet Nuria and Kayd on the page!
